Fifty Seoul

Fifty Seoul was a flea market at Garosugil, Sinsa-dong that three designers (Cracker your wardrobe, Tizza, and Yourboyhood) decided to organize to donate half of its profit to the victims of the earthquake that recently hit Sendai, Japan. They are planning to continue holding this flea market once a month.
It was quite an experience, seeing a few fashion designers, models, and photographers and other big fashion icons gather for this event. The flea market was very sophisticated- especially the one held at the underground bar called Social Club. They had the most unique collection down there, a collection that you can't find elsewhere in Seoul.
This is what I find really characteristic about Garosugil. The people who shop at Garosugil are similar to those at Harajuku in Japan or SoHo in New York; they don't try to fit into the social norm and wear whatever they want without giving a damn about what other people would think about them. Each person has his/her own thing going on, all freely expressing themselves through their clothes, accessories, shoes, etc.
It is a different world from the commonly known Gangnam, Myeongdong or pretty much anywhere else in Seoul. I guess the only (major) drawback is that most clothes are over-priced since most shops have designer clothes.

LOVED the blazers. WOW.

I had to kiss it good bye- it was over $100 :(

Model 강승현

This is Jean. She is adorable, quirky, and because of that, absolutely lovable. She was the one who told me about this event and invited me to go with her, so I have her to thank for this great experience.
Like all the other people at Garosugil, she definitely has her own thing going on. And she isn't scared to show it, although she got her butt kicked in the process. I admire her for staying true to herself despite all that.
Her passion is music and she usually rocks her headphones (she didn't have it today for some reason). Unlike the rest of us guilty illegal dl-ers, she buys CDs and collects badges, shirts, or anything related to music. I understand less than half of what she talks about when she goes on about music, but I can sense excitement in her eyes and voice, which is something I respect so much about people who have such a strong passion for something.
Jean warned me she wouldn't smile in my pictures, and I love her for saying that. I think her expressions actually reflect her personality much MUCH more. She's just being herself :)

It was 정녹영, one of the designers on Project Runway Korea Season 3!!!

  2. What I really enjoy about your posts are that each post seems to have like an individual theme.
i.e. your Cherry Blossom post had this soft pastel overtone to it, but this post is a lot more contemporary, daring, and bold.
Love your Blog Ye, and I am willing to bet a lot of other ppl appreciate these posts as much as I do!
